IMAGING GLOSSARY
Morphology (image processing)A neighborhood image-processing algorithm similar to image convolution except that Boolean logic is applied instead of arithmetic.
There are two types of morphology, binary and gray-scale. Both have similar operation but are carried out differently because of the data width.
The four major operations are:
Erode - a filter that makes bright objects smaller.
Dilation - a filter that makes bright objects larger.
Opening - erosion followed by dilation.
Closing - dilation followed by
erosion.
Do not confuse with morphing.
