IMAGING GLOSSARY

DPI (printing)

Dots Per Inch. The number of printer dots that can be printed in one inch.

The printer's resolution is defined by the number of dots per inch:

lower resolution = less dots per inch

Higher resolution = more dots per inch.

Dots Per Inch is completely determined at scanning time, and is not to be confused with the resolution of a display device, which is typically measured in pixels.
