IMAGING GLOSSARY8i (AccuSoft term)This indicates 8-bit indexed color. 8i is used
to distinguish between 8-bit gray scale (8-bit gray level) and 8-bit indexed
color.
An 8-bit indexed color DIB is one where each 8-bit pixel value in the
bitmap is used as an index to the palette. The palette dictates which RGB
color the pixel displays.
These images are compact ways of storing color images. However they are
difficult to process because the bytes that make up the pixel can no longer
be ordered with any certainty.
